Day 102 (8th October) Uglich to Velikhii Novgorod.

A long day of driving on roads ranging from moderately bumpy to sublimely-smooth, the latter being the M10 motorway from Moscow to Saint Petersburg. This was a toll road and the distance from Tver to Velikhii Novgorod cost us 1,920 roubles.

Novgorod is a very old city and was once the capital of Russia. The most important building is the Kremlin, which we visited in 2016 but the cathedral is so awe-inspiring that it has to be visited again. Ivan the Terrible convinced himself that the people of Novgorod were a threat to his reign so he slaughtered the entire population of the city.
