Day 125 (31st October) Verkhnyi Lars to Findikli

We succeeded in driving from the Russia/Georgia border through the whole of Georgia despite the Tbilisi-Batumi motorway still under construction and we had to make frequent diversions with inadequate signposting. However we got to the Georgia/Turkey border before nightfall and getting out of Georgia was a doddle. So was getting into Turkey until the last check when we told to return to “Pero One”. This apparently meant the first window where the officer seems to have assumed we had a green card and didn’t ask about compulsory insurance. We had to drive back to Pero One in the face of lorries coming the other way and went through again, only to be told that I needed insurance. I had to go to the insurance office where I was told that they don’t take cards and I would have to get cash from an ATM. By the time we got through the Turkish side it was dark and we drove for some way where we saw a fast food restaurant and had a grim, albeit cheap, meal. We then continued for a short way before driving into the tourist resort of Findikli where we found a lovely car park at the shore of the Black Sea. We had an excellent night’s sleep.
