Most of the day was spent shopping in Wangfujing street in a vain attempt for Jennifer to find presents for her family. They are almost entirely Western shops (Addidas, Nike etc etc) and the one Chinese-owned shop, Lulong, had uniforms of the Chinese athletes at the Olympic Games on display. However hard we argued they were no allowed to sell them until after the Games. It was poring with rain so we went back to the hotel. In the evening, I waked through the rain to see Tianenman Square, but the police were still only allowing people with permits.
