Day 20 was devoted to visiting the City Palace on the shore of Lake Pichola. The palace is huge and would require several days to visit properly. We entered through the Badi Pol (“Big Gate”) which was built in 1616 in the style of gates at Chittorgarh. By the time we had completed the circuit with thousands of other people, we were exhausted and I had just about enough energy to climb the steep steps to the Jagdish Temple, the main part of which was closed, so we got a tuk-tuk back to the hotel.
