Arriving in Hue after a good night’s sleep on the bus, a taxi driver took us to a lovely little hotel up a side street that we would never have found by ourselves. They even served us a breakfast for £1.50 each after we had booked in and then we went to bed for a couple of hours. In the afternoon we went for a walk across the Cau Tien Trang bridge which spans the Perfume River and visited the Dong Ba market, Its open air part sells a wide range of fruit and vegetables while te indoor part sells just about everything else. In the evening we went for a meal to a restaurant recommended by the hotel, but couldn’t find it and got lost, stumbling into Vo Thi Sau street which was heaving with people and scooters and an ear-splitting cacophony of sound which purported to be music from loudspeakers in restaurants. In the end, we found the Tropical Garden restaurant which was deserted. I had a nice meal of prawns cooked in mango juice but Jennifer was underwhelmed by her noodle soup.
